The Society has led the promotion of the history of the town of Edenderry and the surrounding area since it's founding in 1979.
It hosts lectures, competitions, preservation drives and other events aimed at educating and interesting people in the history of their local area and preserving the history that is here, the physical remains, peoples memories and their photographs.
The societies evening meetings are busiest from September to June. During this time we have one meeting a month. These normally involve a short discussion of the societies business, upcoming society events and any other events taking place in the area organised by other groups. There is then a lecture, these can be on any topic but usually have some tie-in to the local history or a local person. We finish with a cup of tea, biscuit and a chat.
The society organises day trips, especially during the summer, to local areas of interest and to special events if they are taking place nearby. This summer, 2008, there are day trips to Maynooth, Russborough House, Ballybryan and events of the national heritage week.
An annual trip away is organised for a weekend during the summer.
